If "woke" means being aware of the history of power in the U.S., of knowing how systematically disadvantaged people have been, and are being othered, exploited and persecuted, and openly objecting and working to end these injustices, then I'm hard pressed to separate "woke" from just being a decent person aware of history and contemporary injustice.

If you really love your country, you want it to be just. You want all of its people have to the full measure of their rights, to be free of desperate want, and to have all the protections of the Rule of Law. If you claim to want the best for your country, if you want it to be truly great, this is what you are working for.

Who wants their country to have desperate people, oppression, and injustice? What kind of perverse "patriotism" is that?
