My Confession
Never again.
Your rod and your staff - that is to say, the scepter of the secular power, and the shepherd’s crook of ecclesiastical authority, do not comfort me. I have seen them break the backs of children, and scar the faces of the innocent. I have been witness to who truly wields them, and how they are wielded.
I have been complicit. I bear guilt. But never again.

I think most of us have been complicit in things we wish we hadn’t done. I know I have, and like you, never again.
We are all products of our successes and our failures, good decisions and bad. Some failures can be redeemed while others can’t. My goal with the life I have left is to focus on what I can do and no longer on what I should have done.
