True Independence
Why to learn, why to think.
Learning to think deeply, with nuance and complexity will not make you rich or famous or powerful. In fact, it may well do the opposite. The key to mass approval is telling people what they want to hear, not what they need to hear.
You should learn to think anyway. Because the only measure of life that matters, in the end, is how much you exist in reality - not in comfort or esteem. And when you understand, everything about you becomes fuller and richer. Your empathy isn’t just pity, it’s Wisdom. If you really understand, you treat the people around you differently, and see your place in the human story with clearer eyes. You understand our interdependence, our shared destiny, what we really are, and what we realistically could be.
You can live in an illusion. Most people do. Most people pass through this life with very little reality intruding on their state of mind. But what a pity to waste this little flash of brilliant light between two vast darknesses on something false, something designed for comfort rather than clarity.
Think, study and contemplate deeply. You can be more than you are, maybe more than you thought possible. And when you are misunderstood - and you will be, pay that price willingly. What you are becoming is something that most people will never be.
